Scaling the Mixing Efficiency of Sediment‐Stratified Turbulence

نویسندگان

چکیده

The flux Richardson number Rf, also called the mixing efficiency of stratified turbulence, is important in determining geophysical flow phenomena such as ocean circulation and air-sea transports. Measuring Rf field usually difficult, thus parameterization based on readily observed properties essential. Here, estimates a strongly turbulent, sediment-stratified estuarine are obtained from measurements covariance-derived turbulent buoyancy fluxes (B) spectrally fitted values dissipation rate kinetic energy (ε). We test scalings for terms Reynolds (Reb), gradient (Ri), Froude (Frt). Neither Reb-based nor Ri-based scheme able to describe variations but Frt-based works well. These findings support further use Frt - oceanic environments.

assessment of the efficiency of s.p.g.c refineries using network dea

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...

On the mixing efficiency in stably stratified turbulence

The mixing efficiency Rf (more formally referred to as the flux Richardson number) is a widely used parameter that is intended to provide a measure of the amount of turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) that is irreversibly converted to background potential energy as a result of turbulent mixing in a stably stratified fluid. In this paper, three different definitions of the mixing efficiency that are ...

Destratification by Mechanical Mixers: Mixing Efficiency and Flow Scaling

Experiments have been performed to assess the efficiency of mechanical mixers in destratifying water bodies. The effects of Reynolds number, physical scale, and Richardson number were all considered. The results demonstrated that the variation of mixing efficiency with Richardson number was well described by two different power-law regimes. At low Richardson numbers, the efficiency increased wi...

Mixing in manipulated turbulence

A new computational framework for the simulation of turbulent flow through complex objects and along irregular boundaries is presented. This is motivated by the application of metal foams in compact heat-transfer devices, or as catalyst substrates in process-engineering. The flow-consequences of such complicated objects are incorporated by adding explicit multiscale forcing to the Navier–Stokes...

Scaling Laws in Turbulence∗

The largely open problem of scaling laws in fully developed turbulence is discussed, with the stress put on similarities and differences with scaling in field theory.
